We have a wonderful selection of hand crafted Mala prayer beads. ...

Mala Prayer BeadsMala beads “garland” are a string of beads traditionally used in prayer and meditation. They are a reminder of our intentions. Malas are used for keeping count while reciting, chanting or mentally repeating a mantra or prayer. Typically repeated hundreds or even thousands of times, the mala is used so that one can focus on the meaning or sound of the mantra rather than counting its repetition. One repetition is usually said for each bead while turning the thumb clockwise around each bead, though some tradition may call for counterclockwise motion or specific hand finger usage. When arriving at the Guru bead, some assert that both Hindus and Tibetan Buddhist traditionally turn the mala around and then go back in the opposing direction. Traditional Malas have 108 beads strung together and one “Guru bead” which is larger than the rest. The Guru bead is used as a place marker for the fingers to feel for the end or the beginning of the garland for meditation or mantra chanting.— Products shown: Mala Prayer Beads.
